Gonder city laid in north Ethiopia on the Abyssinian Upland, inhabited through Amharów, at present fourth in terms of the size in the country (c 200 tys. of inhabitants). It was established in 1580 by the Sertse Dyngyla emperor (1563 - 1597). For the XVII century till the half of the 19th century it was a residence of Ethiopian emperors and an official capital city of the country. On account of remains of imperial Gonder castles he constitutes one of tourist major facilities on the historical trail of Ethiopia. Fortified city Fasil Ghebbi an UNESCO entered in 1979 on the list of the world legacy stayed.
