Charming region Saxon Switzerland is a land of rocks and locks. Being situated on both sides of the Elbe, densely converted into forest and rich in fantastically formed rock forms region, has the status of the national park from 1990. Hour of the road to the south of the city Dresden, all over both edges of the Elbe suddenly a clump of rock bastions appears. These towers and turrets, spires and domes, were carved in the sequence of millennia as a result of effects of rains and frost on sandstone. A clatter of waterfalls and a rustle of rushing mountain streams are resounding through ravines separating them today. Best to reach Saxon Switzerland from Poland through Zgorzelec, or from the Czech side through Hrensko. Huge strongholds, smaller castles and charming small towns are waiting for tourists willing for touring with wattle-and-daub houses. A fairy-tale landscape is a main tourist attraction Saxon Switzerland offers which - rocks built of sandstone, carved in the extraordinary way by the process of erosion.
